Resilience in the Face of Adversity: Zahra's Inspiring Fight Against Myelodysplastic Syndrome
Meet Zahra, our very own superhero. We were thrilled to have her toss the coin to kick off our 2024 T20.
Zahra's battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) began when her family rushed her to the Emergency at RCH, noticing she wasn't her usual self. Within just thirty minutes of a blood test, Anna, Zahra's mum, received the alarming news: Zahra's haemoglobin level was at a critical 7 – the lowest ever recorded in someone still alive.
Following her diagnosis, Zahra and her family endured a challenging period, spending Christmas, New Year, and even Zahra's 3rd birthday isolated in the hospital for a life-saving bone marrow transplant with Zahra showing immense resilience, determination, and strength throughout.
